Spruce London supply and sell some of the most technically advanced wool and wool blend fabrics in the industry – nothing matters more to us than quality and performance. As with all textiles, those used in any interior environment need care and maintenance on a regular basis in order to maintain the integrity of the fabric and ensure it does not wear before it’s time. We provide Guarantee’s with all of our fabrics, and prior to the Guarantee, these fabrics have been through extensive and rigorous testing in accordance with current required standards. As with all fabrics, housekeeping and cleaning schedules for textiles should be site-specific and correctly adapted to the nature and degree of usage experienced. General guidance on the Care & Maintenance of wool textiles: • As wool is a natural fibre, the product will inevitably shed excess fibre within the first few weeks of its use – vacuuming the fabric at this time should remove excess fibres from the surface;
• Vacuum fabrics regularly to prevent build-up of dust and dirt on the fabric surface – wool is naturally repellent to these factors so they should be easily removed;
• Recommended weekly vacuuming to extend the life of your fabric but again the regularity of usage should be considered here and vacuum more often where necessary;
• Call in professional cleaning services or use only reputable brands of upholstery shampoo for cleaning. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions exactly – we advise to check the suitability of any cleaning method by applying to an area out of sight or trialling on a control sample of fabric;
• Never use harsh cleaners on fabrics such as bleach, ammonia, strong acids, soaps or cleaners designed for hard surfaces. General Guidance on Stain Removal for wool textiles: • Spills are common and wool has a natural layer which prevents stains from being absorbed: even so and with stain repellent finishes, spills should be treated as quickly as possible to mop up excess liquid using absorbent tissue or a clean damp cloth; • Most stains can be treated with one of three cleaning liquids: dry cleaning fluid, upholstery shampoo or clean water.
• Always work inward from the edge of the stain to prevent spreading;
• Do not over-saturate the fabric but use small amounts of cleaning liquid at a time and blot between applications;
• Liquids should never be pressed through the fabric;
• Do not rub the fabric with force as this could affect the colour or potentially damage the surface of the fabric;
• Use of a dryer such as hairdryer can avoid edge marks showing from the cleaning process; • Continue until the stain has disappeared or contact a reputable upholstery cleaner if the stain persists;
• Please be aware that certain poorly fixed dyes such as those used in denim jeans can transfer onto light coloured fabrics. Heat and humidity can also contribute. We are unable to accept responsibility for dye transfer caused by external contaminants. We would always recommend contacting a professional cleaning company for full guidance on the care of your seating.
